OK, so I think I've figured out the route to take through Linux 2.2 ...
1) build your kernel with Alan Cox's -acN patch, where
N is currently 2
2) increase your soft and hard file descriptor limits, e.g.
bash# ulimit -n 8192
bash# ulimit -nH 8192
3) bash# ./configure
(should pick up on new resource limits)
4) bash# make install
Great :-)
Hopefully the increased file descriptor stuff will make it into the
mainstream 2.2 kernel releases RSN.
