I think if we fork 3.0 before 3.0 releases, 3.0 will never release :(.
I'd rather keep it in a branch - which is easy for me to do, it wont rot
[much]. Anyhow, its in my decouple-depends branch, so anyone can grab
it.

Exactly. Theres more of the same attached - this carries on the
reshuffling - all incremental, non-revolutionary - to make gopher://
also optional without #ifdefs.
I'll put this in if theres two folk other than I that want it in -
Adrian has already said he'd rather it not go into 3.0, and if keeping
it out of 3.0 gets him helping with the bugfixing, I think thats an
entirely acceptable tradeoff :).
