SQUID 1.1.beta11 doent't return Error pages....

hi,
my 1.1beta11 does NOT give me any error pages (as in "Connection refused") back.
i've tries using telnet i just get connections closed.

cache.log does say:

96/10/31 13:30:09| ERR_CONNECT_FAIL: http://www.gmti.com

but netscape says:

document containes no data...

i've applied the b11 patch, removed all objects and recompiled....

any ideas???
