Try running dnsserver from the command line. If you want give it a -d option
for debugging into a file dnsserver.$PID.log. You should be able to just
type in names and get info back, e.g. my typing:
$ /usr/local/squid/bin/dnsserver
www.microsoft.com
produces:
$name www.microsoft.com
$h_name www.microsoft.com
$h_len 4
$ipcount 10
