page faults with physical i/o ???

Hello,

I have a little problem with Squid v1.1.3 and Linux v2.0.27.

Even on starting up squid I´ll get massive i/o faults and also after about
100000 requests ther are about
70000 i/o faults.

Machine: Redhat Linux v4.0

        Asus P55T2P4
        128MB Ram
        512k pipline burst cache
        3c590 PCI nic
        1MB S3 964 PCI VGA
        AHA2940UW
        one 2GB barracuda one 4GB barracuda , both wide

        services running: named 4.9.5-pl1, apache v1.1.1 only for squish-stats and
cachemgr.cgi
                          squid v1.1.3

        GCC v2.7.2.1, binutils v2.7.0.3, libc v5.4.17

here is the Cache information shortly after startup with !!!!! 3000+ !!!!!
ppagefaults and only 8 requests.
