I also have this problem. My solution is to reload squid every night.
There is a section in the FAQ relating to libgnumalloc, but it did not
help me. Another culprit may be the regex library shipped with Linux.
Forcing use of the regex library shipped with squid brought up
performance at least and might help with memory issues as well, since
every request to squid results in several calls to the regex package.
