This is a FAQ by now... if it isn't in the FAQ it should be put there.
Squid is NOT a FTP proxy. It is a HTTP proxy acting as a FTP gateway for
HTTP clients.
The FTP protocol is very hard to cache as it is not trivial to determine
the current state of FTP. The first file maybe, but almost impossible
for the second and onwards.
There exists separate software that transparently proxies the FTP
protocol, and I think there is at least one implementation that also
tries to cache files.
