Unless you apply a special patch to the resolver (I think its described in
the 1.1 release notes in the doc/ directory), squid doesn't have as good an
understanding of DNS cache times as the resolver does. That's not to say
caching DNS lookups in squid is pointless - far from it, it reduces the need
to do IPC between processes for the majority of useful lookups.

But it is still worth running a local caching-only nameserver on your squid
machine, and setting your resolv.conf to 127.0.0.1.
