Hi,
I've searched the archives and haven't found the answer yet so
I'm moving to the next step (all of you:).
We have Squid 2.2.STABLE2 up but not running. When I try to
connect to an external site (Yahoo in this example) we get:
---
The requested URL could not be retrieved
While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.yahoo.com/
The following error was encountered:
Unable to determine IP address from host name for www.yahoo.com
The dnsserver returned:
DNS Domain 'www.yahoo.com' is invalid: Host not found (authoritative).
This means that:
The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.

(Squid/2.2.STABLE2)
---
This is a dual-homed Sparc 10 running Solaris 5.7. DNS is
resolving properly on the system:
# nslookup www.yahoo.com
Server: gatekeeper.qms.com
Address: 161.33.3.1
Name: www.yahoo.com
Addresses: 204.71.200.68, 204.71.200.74, 204.71.200.75, 204.71.200.67
# echo www.yahoo.com | ./dnsserver
$addr 0 204.71.200.74 204.71.200.75 204.71.200.67 204.71.200.68
/etc/nsswitch.conf contains the following line:
hosts: dns files
And finally when we put a sniffer on the network segment that the
external interface is on there is absolutely *no* Squid traffic on the
wire when attempting to get to Yahoo. No DNS query to the server
(although we *do* see the domain traffic when the nslookup and
echo...dnsserver commands are issued) and therefore no traffic from
the proxy trying to get to Yahoo (since it can't resolve to an IP
address).
I know I'm missing something simple but haven't found what it is.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
