Hi *,
I'm new to squid so, if this is a dump question I apologies
for this in advance.
I'm behind a firewall. What I would like to do, is to use our
local firewall by default, but if a process on the firewall or
the line to the isp dies, change to an other firewall (we have
several firewalls in several countries). Something like pinging
a system outside the firewall won't work (as I'm behind the firewall).
Also checking the availability of the firewall wouldn't help because
from inside the firewall it is reachable (only the proxy-service don't
work and unfortunately I have no access to the firewall system, so
I can't check if everything is OK with the proxy-process). So maybe
the only thing to check is if there are request time-outs/system
unreachable. If so I would like to tell squid to use an other system
(and sometimes check the availability of the internet through our local
firewall. If the internet is reachable again through our local firewall,
use the local instead of the foreign one). One of my ideas on this is,
to trace the log files, and if there are cumulative timeouts sending
squid a HUP to use an other config-file. But maybe some one has a better
idea (is it possible to configure squid to directly response to
timeout/not reachable events in that way)?
Best regards
Sebastian
