Hi,
Installed 7.1 yesterday. It comes with Squid 2.3STABLE4-10(?).
No problems with gcc. At least not yet.
Since Reiserfs is best suited for partitions with small files, I go with the
opnion that it's an advantage to use it in the cache partition. That's what
I do.
Off course if you intend to use the journaling in the reiserfs, if you use
it in every directory, your machine will recover faster from crashes.
I've tested it several times on top of Raid1(pressing power button) and
altough it stops a bit while mounting the partition, it is faster than the
check in a (smaller) ext2 partition, also in Raid1.

Subject: [squid-users] Squid 2.4 rpms?
Joe,
Just curious as to when you think we could get our hands on your squid
srpms? I'm about to test install RH7.1 in about 4 hours. I dunno what
version of Squid it has. Anyways, if I don't encounter any hitches and
don't see any potential problems, I'd upgrade all our servers to RH7.1 and
hope I may be able to use your srpms instead of the stock rpm in 7.1. So
far, I haven't heard of any bad reviews about it (unlike 7.0 where the sh*t
hit the fan just a day after it was released). I understand 7.1 still uses
gcc 2.96 (same controversial version as in 7.0) but keeping my fingers
crossed. What I like about RH7.1 is that it uses kernel 2.4 which already
has kernel support for ReiserFS among other improvements.
One more thing for all you guys, I have 2 SCSI drives (18Gb and 9Gb which is
limited to only 60% utilization by Squid) on 1 U2W controller for the cache
and a UDMA66 IDE drive for the / partition. I plan to use ReiserFS but do
you guys think its enough to use ReiserFS on the cache drives only and leave
the IDE drive as ext2?
