i had another look, and its only seems to be winnt with ie4.01, we are a isp, and i know we serve 98, 95, and mac users, if 98 and 95 were in there, i am sure i would be seeing lots and lots of entries.

You cannot expect much from disbling the cache.log. By default squid logs in cache.log while starting and anything goes wrong in squid. I mean debug_options in Squid.conf is ALL, 1. So you need not worry about cache.log. And It will be very useful to point the runtime failure of the squid. Next, Yes... forwarding loop is detected... Are you sure you are not getting the same error for other OSs win95,98 ??
