[squid-users] Cached or not cached?

Hi all (again)

I have a couple of squid boxes on my network, one behind a firewall and one
externally on the dmz. Ive got the internal box talking to the external one,
and can browse the web (and do all the usual stuf!)

My question is... How do I know if both my boxes are actually caching
sites/pages that I visit, as I seem to be getting the feeling that the
following is happening.

1. User requests www.site.com via browser
2. browser connects to internal squid,
3. internal squid connects to external squid
4. external squid gets site.
5. external squid connects to internal squid with www.site.com
6. internal squid passes site to browser.

Now, when I visit the same site again, I see the the whole process again,
rather than the internal squid give me the (supposedly) cached site internally
without having to go externally....

How can I tell that my internall & external squid boxes are caching??

I've looked at access.log and store.log and see the following.. (for
mcaffe.com)

1000737253.738 567072 192.168.1.201 TCP_MISS/503 923 GET
http://download.mcafee.com/updates/superDat.asp - ANY_PARENT/xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -

1000736976.564 RELEASE -1 FFFFFFFF 09A0EB8E1B30E9EB04DF84571E03B5FD 304
1000735533 1000380035 -1 image/gif 14076/0 GET
http://st.valueclick.com/ad.s/a0044338.gif
1000737253.738 RELEASE -1 FFFFFFFF 073B85C9885EA719DB50B18B0BCE361D 503
 -1 -1 -1 unknown -1/856 GET
http://download.mcafee.com/updates/superDat.asp

Am I to assume from this its not caching?? (just acting as a proxy to the
external server?)

External box says..

1000739267.162 542302 217.8.3.205 TCP_MISS/500 1026 GET
http://download.mcafee.com/updates/superDat.asp - DIRECT/216.49.88.40 -

1000739267.162 RELEASE -1 FFFFFFFF 21B0C7929C269FE502ECFC0E1C2CBF09 500
 -1 -1 -1 unknown -1/959 GET
http://download.mcafee.com/updates/superDat.asp

Me ponders...

TIA

Dan.
