You should most likely not be using --enable-kill-parent-hack.
The --enable-kill-parent-hack is when you are running Squid under the
control of a separate wrapper like RunCache startng Squid using the -N
option, and you want Squid to kill this wrapper when you run "squid -k
shutdown".
