[squid-users] working of coss fs

Hello List,
            I'm using squid-2.4stable3. I configured
squid with options coss and aufs. The cache_dir of my
configuration file looks like
cache_dir coss /usr/local/squid/run/coss 600
max-size=131072
cache_dir aufs /usr/local/squid/run/cache 100 16 256
cache_swap_log /usr/local/squid/run/swaplog/%s

I started squid and run a polygraph test. i found the
aufs cache directory was full. but the coss directory
seems to be empty.
Tell me whether my above configuration is correct.
my another question is why we are using aufs with
coss. whether we can use coss without aufs.
my os is linux. kernel-2.4.2
