But the directory is not created by make install, no? Or at least, you
would have to run squid -z first... I don't have a vanilla squid.conf to
hand so I don't know what the default is, but IIRC it uses
/usr/local/squid/cache, which is not created so even the vanilla squid
will not be able to find the cache_dir, if executed via squid -z it will
show an error and quit.
