https means a lot more work for the web server, quite easily causing
overload on the web server CPU, and some more work for your browser.

The amount of handshakes per new connection between your browser and
the web server is also considerably larger with relatively large
amount of data (ca 1KB) causing significant connection setup delays
if the link between the browser and the web server is saturated.

To Squid there should not be much of a difference. At least I have
not noticed any such issues when testing the SSL tunnelling
capabilities of Squid..
