try setting your cache_mem to 128 MB. also follow the instructions
given on the faq, particularly:

http://www.squid-cache.org/Doc/FAQ/FAQ-8.html

make sure that no other processes are eating up your memory. from the
looks of top, squid is using less than 100MB.
