Can you try reducing your cache_mem value and observe it for some time.

I am also running ES with squid 2.5-10 stable. I increased cache_mem
value
And my squid started giving me trouble.
Now I m using only 512 MB , earlier I was using 700 MB. My total memory
in server is 2 gig

Thanks - lk

4 gig, system monitor shows that 2.9 or 3.9 is in use and that the swap
page of
2 gig is not used. The only thing this server needs to do is run squid
and a
content filter.
