I believe your problem has nothing to do with ufs or diskd, if it were diskd
it crashes on the edge but do not slow down

in any case you should compile DEVICE_POLLING and set "ifconfig fxp* link0" on
all cards

check with vmstat -i that you do net get IRQ overlapping, you may have shared
IRQs on your PCI slots and the Intel cards are not good with IRQ sharing
You should probably go for 3Com and set polling on them

do you see fxp* Watchdog timeout in messages?
