[squid-users] cache_vary parameter.

Hello Dist,
- Solaris 10
- squid-2.6.STABLE14

Compiled with:
./configure --prefix=/usr/local --enable-mempool-debug
--enable-xmalloc-statistics --with-pthreads --enable-devpoll --enable-storeio="ufs aufs" --enable-icmp --enable-delay-pools
--enable-useragent-log --enable-referer-log --enable-ssl --disable-http-violations --enable-large-cache-files
--enable-follow-x-forwarded-for --enable-auth="basic" --enable-basic-auth-helpers="LDAP"
--enable-external-acl-helpers="ip_user ldap_group" --with-pthreads --with-aio

I'm curious, I don't see much on the cache_vary parameter impact of a
running Squid service, BUT with it set to cache_vary on (the default)
there are sites which can't entirely load (such as images
gif/jpg/etcetera...) also some Audio podcasts don't complete either. In
the log file I see:

2007/07/18 12:03:04| comm_select: timeout 391
2007/07/18 12:03:04| commSetTimeout: FD 31 timeout -1
2007/07/18 12:03:04| commSetTimeout: FD 31 timeout 120
2007/07/18 12:03:04| comm_select: timeout 386
2007/07/18 12:03:04| commSetTimeout: FD 38 timeout 60
2007/07/18 12:03:04| commSetTimeout: FD 40 timeout 60
2007/07/18 12:03:04| comm_select: timeout 383
2007/07/18 12:03:04| comm_select: timeout 362
2007/07/18 12:03:04| commSetTimeout: FD 32 timeout 60

Two questions:
1) what is the impact of cache_vary on vs. off(seems to work more
appropriately)
2) what is with all of the comm_select: timeout lines?

Thanks List,
