2.5 is seriously old now. It's been unsupported for nearly two years.
Please locate a newer Squid package, and if need be bug the SuSE people
about updating theirs.

I hesitate to even guess at what can cause corruption of files in 2.5.
I doubt the delay pools itself that causes the issue, more likely the
slowing of the traffic barfs the transit path somehow.
