The cache.log file you sent indicates you were using some version of
Squid-2.5 when it was crashing.
The earlier runs looked like Squid-2.4.STABLE2.

Hmm... right. The current 2.5 snapshot releases report themselves wrongly as
a CVS version. This is something we should address somehow. Robert?
