proxy's act on a clients behalf. In the case of squid, we proxy http,
ftp, and a few other protocols. The advantage and whole point of squid is
that data get's cached for subsequent access. Therefore a speed increase
for all, and for our foreign friends who pay for Internet access by the
bits and bytes, it saves them money too.

The first question I have to ask is, have you compiled your kernel with
the necessary options?

What version of squid are you using?

What distribution of Linux are you using? version?

If you are using rpm, what version of squid did you install?
